A snack carton gets opened and binned. A first-shoes box, a milestone-cards box or a baby-hamper rigid box with a ribbon closure gets kept. Parents store hospital bands, ultrasound prints and outgrown bodysuits in it. It sits in a wardrobe or on a nursery shelf with your logo facing out, for years.
That makes the box long-lived brand real estate, and it means the build has to hold. We spec keepsake work at 2 mm greyboard minimum, tight-wrapped corners, ribbon anchored through the board rather than glued to the surface, and lamination that will not yellow in a drawer. A gift box that delaminates after a year says something about your brand you did not intend.

ASTM F963 is not a voluntary guideline. CPSIA Section 106 made it mandatory US law, codified at 16 CFR part 1250, currently the F963-23 edition. It applies to products intended for children 12 and under, and compliance must be proven by third-party testing at a CPSC-accepted lab, backed by a Children's Product Certificate.
The standard regulates packaging film directly. Flexible plastic film bags and sheets used in toy packaging must average at least 0.00150 in (0.0381 mm) in thickness and never drop below 0.00125 in (0.03175 mm) at any single point, or be perforated so that at least 1% of area is removed over any 30 × 30 mm region. Shrink wrap and bags with a minor dimension of 3.94 in or less are exempt. Getting the unit pairing right matters: even CPSC's own summary page mis-pairs the inch and millimeter conversions, a detail many suppliers get wrong. We gauge to the corrected figures above and log them per run.
