04 · Binding & imposition

Bound by the
page count.

Binding is dictated by how many pages there are and how the brochure must open.

Saddle-stitching — folded and stapled through the spine — is the economical choice for 8–96 pages and lies reasonably flat for catalogs, programmes and lookbooks; the page count must be a multiple of four. Above roughly 60–80 pages, PUR perfect-binding gives a clean square spine up to 600 pages; PUR adhesive flexes without cracking and holds coated stock far better than older EVA glue. For premium and heavy-use pieces we case-bind (hardcover), Smyth-sew, Wire-O or Swiss-bind.

Unbound folded work covers bi-fold, trifold, Z-fold, gatefold, accordion and double-parallel folds — each imposed and creased so the panels nest without buckling, which matters on heavier coated stock where an un-scored fold cracks. Page geometry, creep and spine allowance are all set at imposition, before plates, so pagination and cross-spread images line up on the finished piece.

05 · Stock, finishing & files

Mixed stocks,
press-ready files.

Text and cover stocks are chosen separately, and can even be mixed inside one book.

Text pages run 80–170 gsm and covers 200–350 gsm across coated, uncoated, textured and recycled stocks. We can combine them in one binding — an uncoated text section with a coated photo signature, or tipped-in vellum and metallic inserts. Sheet-fed offset in 4–8 colours plus spot Pantone does the printing, with digital for short runs.

Covers carry soft-touch lamination, spot UV, hot foil and deboss; bound editions can add ribbon markers, head-and-tail bands, edge painting and fold-out posters, sample swatches or pocket folders. Supply artwork as single pages (not spreads) with 3 mm bleed and crop marks — our prepress team handles imposition, spine calculation and colour separation. Runs start at 500 units saddle-stitched or 1,000 perfect-bound, with a 10–20 day production window plus transit.

06 · Proofing & colour

Signed off
before the run.

On a multi-signature book, colour and imposition are approved before the press is committed.

We supply a digital contract proof for content and layout, and a colour-managed proof — or a wet proof on the actual stock for critical work — so skin tones, brand colours and cross-spread images are agreed before make-ready. Imposition proofs (folded dummies) confirm pagination, creep and fold sequence on the real paper weight, catching a reversed signature or a tight gutter while it is still cheap to fix.

During the run, operators pull sheets against the approved proof under D50 lighting and check register, and bound samples are inspected for spine alignment and trim before the full run is packed. It is the same QC chain — colour, register, fold accuracy — we apply to every job.
